These fine birds have taken up residence on nearby farmland, thriving due to the patience of visitors hiding and husbandry of the local farmer offering them scraps of food.
Matt and I visited on a (very) cold mid January afternoon and were treated to view a trio of the brood for the first 90 minutes. They were competing with sheep and other ravenous birds for attention and food, whilst we fiddled with camera settings and cold fingers.
Suddenly the flock emerged to give their aeronautical acrobatic display. They, of course, dictated their random flight paths and we were obliged to follow and try to foresee their next devious routes .
The afternoon winter sky was constantly changing, but ultimately provided a great backdrop.
