Have you ever been on a safari or a whale watching trip? The former is on my bucket list and the latter is a sore point of irritation. On a couple of whale watching trips I always found myself on 'the wrong side of the boat' . Feverish activity on the other side told me they were nearby, but I have plenty  of photographs of disturbed waves or last remnants of a fin or tail as it submerges.  My only breaching view was to the naked eye but out of camera range.  They share a common trait with the eagles and humming birds - a keen awareness  of when to disappear as the camera comes out. You can never outsmart a whale and its trajectory.
On one vacation we had Bald Headed Eagles in the vicinity. It became my mission to  stalk and (photographically) shoot one or more. After all anyone can buy a postcard at the local store - so I guess I will make do with this collection; one might say animal portraits?
