When in Rome you just have to visit Florence... be rude not to, being so close - again justice was not served but the atmosphere was amazing. The Duomo that dominates and the Uffizi inspires. Colours and textures that bewilder - even on a rainy day. Our accommodation for a few days was a 14th (yes 14th.) century apartment emblazoned with a rather incongruous Bruce Springsteen poster.
We had to take a day trip to Pisa - just to say we had seen it and taken one of those "look I'm holding it up" photographs.
